CHRIST-DAILY
CONTENT IN WHATEVER STATE "Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content" (Phil. 4:11). The fifth step or key that Paul provides us in this series of seven (7) keys is that we need to be content in whatever state we find ourselves in. There is no question that circumstances and situations (the old C&S gang) will be sent our way. So how will we respond when they come? Paul as he was writing this epistle to the Philippians was imprisoned at Rome. Paul still rejoiced in this state. Paul preached Christ. Paul lived Christ. Paul declared, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil 1:21). Now there is a man who is truly content with whatever state that he was in. Living or dying was not an issue with Paul. He knew that if he lived, it would be Christ living in and through him. For Christ was his life, his only life. Paul also knew on the other hand, if he died, he would immediately receive his glorified body and be translated into the presence of the Lord (II Cor. 5:1-8). Paul had also given up all confidence in the flesh (Phil 3:3). Paul even though he might have had a lot to boast of in the flesh (Phil. 3:4-6), counted it ALL LOSS "for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord" (Phil. 3:8). Paul just wanted to know Christ and the power of His resurrection -- the resurrection power of Christ living in and through us today. Paul wanted to be involved with the fellowship of His sufferings. That is where we know whatever state we find ourselves in we are going through it together with Christ!! What grace! What a peace! What assurance! If needs be Paul was even ready to be conformed to the death of Christ in him as him (Phil 3:10). We need to really know and fellowship with Christ as He lives in and through us. There will be love, grace and peace for every circumstance and situation that we may face. We don't need to look to our outside state or situations. We need to look to our inside state, with Christ as our life. When Christ is revealed in us and we know and fellowship with Him, then we will be content in whatever state we are in!
