"Above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one"  (Eph. 6:16).

While the first three (3) pieces of armor deal primarily with us bodily, the next two (2) pieces of armor deal primarily with our soul and mind. The expanded Greek text declares the full message with the Greek tense action provided: "In all things at intervals taking up the shield of faith, in which you will hereafter be able to once then quench all the fiery darts of the evil one"  We live by "the faith of the Son of God" (Gal. 2:20), not our own mustered up psuedo faith. The devil sends fiery darts to strike us. If we stand in anything that is of us, we will be struck and with much pain. However, if we hold up the shield of His faith, for He is the faithful and true, then the fiery darts are quenched. They are quenched because of the finished work on the cross. Just like a fiery dart sailing across the sky and falling into a large lake, Satan's fiery darts are quenched in the faith of Christ as in a large lake of water.

The shield we have is of Christ.  The shield is His faith.  Your faith was given to you by the Holy Spirit in the beginning just to get you saved.  Christ is the author and finisher of faith (Hebr. 12:2).  Christ is the alpha and omega of faith.  We now have the Person of faith living on the inside of us now.  This is why Paul said, "It is no longer  I who live, but Christ lives in me" (Gal. 2:20a).  Paul said this is true because, "the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God" (Gal. 2:20, KJV).  The King James Version has the rightly divided rendering for this verse, also confirmed by the Greek text, and throughout similar passages in the Pauline epistles. Paul tells us we are justified "through or by the faith of Jesus Christ" twice in Galatians 2:16 in context with verse 20.  Why is this important?  If you stand in the faith of your own flesh, and attempt to stand against the fiery darts of the enemy, then, don't be surprised when the darts sink into your flesh and you begin to hurt with great pain.  This is spiritual warfare, and we better have spiritual armor.  No Christian should attempt to stand in any less than Christ, and together with Christ.
