CHRIST-DAILY
CHRIST IS THE WAY, TRUTH, & LIFE "Jesus continually said to him, I ever am the way, the truth, and the life. No one ever comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6, Expanded Greek Text). Jesus is giving the upper room discourse to His disciples in preparation for the soon coming events of His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to the Father. Jesus did not want their hearts to be troubled (John 14:1). In His Father's house, there are many mansions, abodes, or abiding places (John 14:2a). Notice, Jesus chose to say, His Father's house and not heaven. Why? This verse is not declaring that Christians will have a southern-type palace for a home in heaven. You may hear singers sing songs that say that. However, John saw no temple in heaven, "for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple" (Rev.21:22). With a glorified body, you will never get tired, need to sit down, or sleep. You don't need a home or mansion to protect from darkness or storms, as there are none. God and the Lamb illuminate the city all the time with their light and there is no night (Rev. 21:23-25). We need to get rid of that sacred cow of erroneous thinking. As the many-membered Body of Christ, we are the adobes and abiding places of God, both in heaven and on earth. The Father's house encompases both. In context with this full discourse, Jesus is clearly preparing His disciples to abide in Him, and let Him abide in them on earth (John 15:4). Jesus tells them on the Day of Pentecost that they will know that that is true, here on earth (John 14:20). The timing and purpose of Jesus' message was to prepare the disciples to live a Spirit-birthed shared-life on earth with Him in them, not to inspire them to wait around to meet Him again one day in the sweet by and by in heaven. Jesus is clearly opening up the door to His disciples that He is going to prepare another body – the Body of Christ. This would be His spiritual body that every son would live together with Christ, beginning at Pentecost. When the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the Body of Christ in the Spirit birthing, we are placed in Christ and Christ comes again to be placed in us as us (I Cor. 12:13; Col 1:27). Jesus Christ is the Father's house. Jesus Christ lived by the life, word, and works of the Father in Him as Him (John 14:10). Jesus told Thomas that, "No one comes to the Father except though Me" (John 14:6b). That's what Jesus discussing. Jesus told Thomas, I am the way to the Father, I am the truth of the Father, and I am the life in the Father (John 14:6a). Then, Philip wanted Jesus to show him the Father (John 14:8). Jesus told Philip if He had seen Him, he had seen the Father (John 14:9). You want to know the Father? You will only know the Father, as a Spirit-birthed son in the Body of Christ, with Christ living in you as you revealing the Father in you (Matt. 11:27). Paul said, "Christ is the image of the invisible God" (Col. 1:15). Paul also said in Christ "dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" (Col. 2:9). As a result, "You are complete in Him" (Col. 2:10). Christ is the way, the truth, and the life of salvation, of life in the Spirit, and of fellowship with our Father! V Written by Dwight Davis |
